Inside the Design - Scott Cam’s Country Home on The Block

Blending new and old perfectly for a country luxe look.

The 2022 season of The Block was certainly a tree change for the channel 9 television series that featured stunning bedroom, bath, and kitchen styling ideas. Usually filmed within and around Sydney or more often Melbourne since 2003, this season the show was filmed in Gisborne, Victoria on a 70-acre property with stunning views of the Macedon Ranges.

The only property on the land was a dilapidated weatherboard homestead built in 1866. Scott Cam, the show's host, renovated this country home alongside The Block's contestants, although his home was not a part of the official competition.

Setting the standard for modern country style kitchens​

Scott Cam had gone all out with his entertainer's country kitchen and functional laundry on The Block! He made impressive work of the renovations, providing kitchen styling ideas that greatly enhanced the room's aesthetic. Creative insight on how to style a kitchen

Other additions that make this rustic modern kitchen a stand-out, feature a custom-built Christian Cole island bench with a built-in butcher's block cutting surface, a huge Framing To A T mirror TV, POTT pendant lights, and limited edition artwork by Nicola Cowie. Matt black appliances complement the matt black cabinetry and lots of timber and texture in the rug to bring warmth into the space. From top to bottom, this rustic kitchen design creates a look that feels both cosy and stylish. This kitchen blends new and old perfectly for a country luxe look.

The laundry is not only stylish but functional with a front load washing machine and dryer, and a large Novi 75 fireclay farmhouse sink to handle the heavy-duty tasks of living on the property. Clever design and organisation details will often make the smallest and hardest working room in the house a pleasure to spend time in.

A standout trend that has been emerging in larger homes with the space is a designated area for the dog bed or even a dog washing bay. Here, Scott and the design team integrated a dog bed in a stylish curved alcove next to the country style sink. For convenience, the laundry doubles as a mudroom next to the external door, creating a spot to sit and remove your boots and hang your hat when entering the home from outside.
